Comparison of Different Extraction Methods

Sample preparation plays a very important role in chemical analysis. Sample pretreatment accounts for 60% of the entire analysis process, and the quality of the pretreatment directly affects the analysis results. The main pre-treatment problems faced by laboratories are: time, sample recovery rate, fouling, reproducibility, etc. Therefore, the fast, simple and automated pretreatment technology can not only greatly save time, but also reduce errors caused by manual operation and avoid the use of a large amount of organic solvents.

There are many methods for pretreatment of solid and semi-solid samples, including Soxhlet extraction, ultrasonic extraction, microwave extraction, ASE, etc. The graph below compares sample volume, solvent volume, and processing time for common extraction methods. It is not difficult to see that ASE has a very obvious advantage in terms of extraction time.
